Male infertility causes don’t usually manifest visible symptoms, it’s only after a couple notices that they are unable to conceive naturally and they need professional help, here is where the man will find out that something is wrong.

There are ten major reasons for male infertility:

- Obesity- A BMI above 30 can have an impact on sperm quality.

- Smoking and addictive substances: Tobacco and addictive substances have a negative effect on sperm.

- Radiation- Some studies show that radiation can harm male fertility, therefore, it is recommended that men do not keep cell phones, laptops or any electronics close to the scrotum and testicles.

- Nutrition: Food rich in antioxidants help to preserve male fertility.

- Supplements and steroids: Testosterone injections and other steroid preparations can severely harm sperm production. Excess of coffee drinking can also have an influence.

- High testicular temperature: Raising the testicular temperature even 2 or 3 degrees centigrade can compromise sperm quality and functionality.

- Infections: Sexually Transmitted Infections, including gonorrhea, chlamydia, and ureaplasma can cause male infertility.

- Genital injuries: Testicular injuries should be treated immediately. Men should take extreme care when playing sports especially sports with high probable testicular injuries such as martial arts, cycling, horse riding.

- Varicocoele: This is enlargement of the veins in the scrotal sack, which raises the temperature of the testes and influences sperm production and quality.

- Age: After 35, the reproduction potential of men drops sharply, as DNA in the nucleus fragments. After the age of 40, the likelihood of men fathering a child without genetic mutations declines 11 percent every year. Children with fathers older than 50 are significantly more likely to suffer from conditions including Down syndrome, Neurofibromatosis, Autism, and Kleinfelter Syndrome.
